Foreign firms responsible for half of Dutch trade

Around 50% of the value of Dutch imports and 45% of exports was due to activity by foreign firms in 2008, according to new figures from the national statistics office CBS.

But these firms account for just 4% of importers and 6% of exports based in the Netherlands, the CBS said.
Firms with a US, German or British parent account for half of the foreign exporters and 60% of the value of imports and exports.
Some 60% of foreign trade revolves around machinery, chemicals and fuel, the CBS said.
