TNT reduces compulsory job losses, unions want more detail

Post and express delivery group TNT is prepared to reduce the number of compulsory job losses at its post delivery arm to below 4,500, the company said on Thursday.

The company is also prepared to take an extra six months to complete the reorganisation process, which will see the postal delivery workforce cut by the equivalent of 8,600 full-time jobs.
The aim of the cuts is to reduce spending by €430m between now and 2017.
The unions had called on the company to reduce the threat of sackings or face industrial action. While this offer is a step in the right direction, TNT will still not say how many jobs will be kept through this new offer, the unions say.
The unions want to put the new proposals to their members next week. ‘We hope that TNT can come with concrete figures,’ said postal workers union official Paul Jekkers.
