Powerful women angry at ‘Middle Ages’ cabinet

A number of the most powerful women in the country have attacked the make-up of the new cabinet for not including enough women, the AD reports.

With just two junior ministerial posts to be allocated, only three women have so far been picked to join the 20-strong team.
‘Half of the population is female and that should be reflected in the cabinet,’ Almere mayor Annemaria Jorritsma told the AD.
European commissioner Neelie Kroes, a long-time VVD member, said she is disappointed. ‘You are not telling me there are no well-qualified women in the country,’ she told the AD.
And Ciska Dresselhuys, former editor of feminist magazine Opzij said: ‘We are going back to the middle ages. And that from a young man like Rutte, who so loves his mum.’
VVD leader and prime minister designate Mark Rutte is 43 and reportedly visits his mother once a week.
