Medical specialists take action in support of new payment system
Hospitals throughout the country will be hit by industrial action by medical specialists on Thursday, who are refusing to treat all but urgent cases, news agency ANP reports.
The specialists, such as surgeons, are angry at government plans to give hospitals more powers to determine their salaries in an effort to cut costs.
At the moment, some 50% of medical specialists are self employed and are paid for each procedure they carry out. The government wants to restrict that process.
The medical specialists’ association expects 90% of members to take part in the strike.
