Forensic scientists launch six-hour dna profile

Scientists at the national forensic institute in The Hague have developed a way to obtain dna out of trace evidence within just six hours, the Telegraaf reports on Friday.

At the moment, an emergency dna request takes 48 hours while non-urgent cases can take weeks, the paper says.
‘This new speed is unique worldwide,’ spokeswoman Inge Oeverling told the paper. Police will use the new technique in cases where speed is of the essence, such as murder.
The new method is only suitable for use in ongoing investigations and the traditional approach to dna indentification is still needed as evidence in court, the paper said.
