Ban immigrants from football clubs to preserve local character: PVV

PVV MP and The Hague city councillor Richard de Mos has called for a ‘temporary foreigner ban’ at the city’s amateur football clubs.

By allowing the clubs to refuse to accept immigrants ‘the typical Hague character of the clubs will not be lost and there will be no problems with non-payers and a shortage of volunteers’, De Mos and fellow councillor Machiel de Graaf said in a string of written questions to city officials.
Clubs with a high proportion of non-western immigrants have been hit by a lack of volunteers, high levels of non-payment of membership fees, ‘disrespectful behaviour and violent incidents’, the councillors said.
They also called for people living on social security benefits to be required by law to carry out voluntary work for their club or face a cut in their income.
