V&D’s new owner plans major expansion
The new owner of the V&D department stores plans to double the number of outlets in the Netherlands and expand into other European countries, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Wednesday.
Asia and the US are also seen as possible new territories for the La Place restaurant group, which was also part of the deal, sealed on Tuesday, the paper says.
‘In every city where there is a C&A, there could be a V&D,’ director Mark McKeon said in an interview. C&A is also a Dutch-owned company. V&D has 62 stores in the Netherlands, C&A 128.
US private equity group Sun Capital has bought V&D and La Place from Maxeda for an undisclosed sum.
V&D has not made a profit for years, despite several owners and relaunches. The company has not commented on the sales price but Maxeda CEO Tony DeNunzio told the paper V&D and La Place were sold debt free.
