Right-wing cabinet ready in one month, says Telegraaf
It will take about a month before a right-wing cabinet agreement has been finalised and ministers appointed, the Telegraaf claims on Tuesday, quoting sources in The Hague.
And a Christian Democrat party congress, which has to give its approval for the CDA’s involvement in a cabinet with the anti-Islam PVV, has been scheduled for September 25 or October 2, the paper says.
On Monday, the queen’s negotiator Herman Tjeenk Willink handed control of the talks back to Ivo Opstelten, who has already spent four weeks on discussions to form a minority cabinet between the CDA and VVD.
Other parties
The coalition will have the support of the PVV in terms of economic policy but Tjeenk Willink warned that other party backing will be needed to pass legislation the PVV will not agree to.
Opstelten expects to need a further two weeks to complete the basic negotiations, sources said.
But plans to reduce government spending by €18bn remain the biggest obstacle to the talks, with the PVV opposed to cuts in healthcare spending and employment benefits, and redundancy law reform.
The Netherlands has been without effective government since the end of February when the cabinet collapsed. The general election was on June 9.
