More men reach the age of 100
The number of male centenarians in the Netherlands has risen for the first time in years, the national statistics office CBS said on Wednesday.
At the beginning of this year, the Netherlands had 1,743 citizens who were aged over 100, up 115 on 2009.
One in seven centenarians is now male, the CBS said. Men account for 246 of the country’s 100 plus residents, up from 210 a year ago.
The oldest woman in the Netherlands was born in 1901, the oldest man in 1902.
