ING reduces art collection, donates to Assen museum
Financial services group ING has given 271 paintings from its art collection to the Drents Museum in Assen.
The donation includes works by Barent Blankert, Dick Pieters and Matthis Röling and is worth several million euros.
Blankert, Pieters and Röling are the three most important living Dutch figurative artists, the Volkskrant says.
The museum, which specialises in modern art, is currently being renovated but will reopen its doors to the public in 2011.
ING is reducing the size of its collection because it takes up so much room to display and store. Last year, it sold 2,500 items via online auction house Ebay, Nos said. That sale generated €150,000 for Unicef.
