Democracy raises its head again within the PVV
PVV MP Martin Bosma is opposed to moves to increase democracy within the anti-Islam party which has no members and keeps its funding secret, he told various newspapers at the weekend.
In the interviews to mark the publication of his new book, Bosma said he was against the idea of a party congress which would give members a say in policy. Bosma is widely seen as party leader Geert Wilders’ closest aide.
‘A membership structure is a failure factor when you are building up your organisation,’ he said in Volkskrant. ‘A membership structure is a bureaucracy.’ Instead, internet allowed the PVV to communicate openly with voters, he said.
Dissident PVV MP Hero Brinkman told news agency ANP on Sunday that Bosma was talking out of turn. MPs had agreed to look at the democratisation of the party after talks on forming a new coalition government had been completed, Brinkman said.
Brinkman first called for more democracy within the PVV during the general election campaign.
