Cabinet negotiatior to queen Monday, right-wing talks set to resume

Cabinet negotiator Herman Tjeenk Willink is to meet the queen early on Monday morning to discuss the next stage in the cabinet formation process.

Tjeenk Willink spoke to all the party leaders last week. He had two rounds of talks with the leaders of the VVD Liberals, the Christian Democrats and anti-Islam PVV, who are hoping to form a right-wing government.
According to the Dutch papers, nothing is likely to stand in the way of a resumption of the right-wing cabinet talks. The negotiatons were halted over a week ago after PVV leader Geert Wilders pulled out because of CDA opposition. Ab Klink, who led the rebel MPs against the PVV alliance, has since resigned.
Speech
Wilders’ weeked speech in New York to opponents of plans to build an Islamic cultural centre near Ground Zero has not affected the three parties’ plans, insiders say.
The speech, which did not contain anything new, was considered mild in tone. In particular, CDA MPs had been concerned Wilders would attack freedom of religion which the party considers a fundamental right.
Wilders wants to ban the Koran, end immigration from Islamic countries and impose a tax on women who wear Islamic headscarves.
