Suspect in Milly case smoked cannabis
A court in Dordrecht heard on Thursday how the suspect in the murder of Milly Boele was under the influence of cannabis at the time of her death.
Sander V, the 26-year-old police officer who has confessed to killing Milly, had taken at least thirty drags of a joint before the attack, his lawyer Willem Anker told the court. Anker wants an investigation into whether the cannabis may have driven Sander V to kill Milly. If so, he will argue for a lesser sentence.
But legal expert Geert-Jan Knoops, interviewed by the Telegraaf, said if Sander V was influenced by the cannabis, he would face a tougher sentence. ‘The law says that police officers and soldiers must be able to cope with stress without recourse to drugs, alcohol or weapons,’ he told the paper.
Milly was murdered in March and her body was found in the garden of the police officer’s home, opposite to where she lived with her parents.
The trial continues.
