Sail girl loses tv contract
Laura Dekker, the 14-year-old girl who hopes to become the youngest person to sail solo around the world, has lost her contract with Dutch production house Eyeworks.
Eyeworks was negotiating with Dekker’s business agents for an exclusive contract to film her during her two-year journey. On Wednesday the company said Dekker’s representatives had increased their demands, reports the Telegraaf.
Robert van den Boogaard of Eyeworks told the paper the company was prepared to make the investment necessary to film the trip but when extra money was demanded for the rights ‘it became a matter of principle for us’.
Dekker and her father are currently sailing to Portugal where her boat will undergo final preparations. She is expected to begin her solo journey after the Atlantic Ocean hurrican season ends sometime in December.
