Museum needs new depot
Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam needs a new depot. The cellars of the existing building, where much of its collection is stored, keep flooding.
The latest flooding occurred on Sunday, although none of the works of art was damaged. But director Sjarel Ex is concerned the collection is in danger from the regular occurances. He hopes Rotterdam council will approve a €23 mln plan to build a new depot nearby.
The plan was approved by the previous council. The new council will make a final decision on September 15.
When the cellars flooded in 2000 a painting by Gilbert & George was damaged.
