Last minute holiday bookings soar
The number of people booking last minute holidays in the sun is soaring because of the poor summer weather, the Telegraaf reports on Thursday.
‘We have never seen anything like it,’ Coby van Dongen of tour operator De Jong Intra Vakanties told the paper. ‘There are always people who book last minute but we are tens of percentage points higher this year.’
OAD-Reizen also reports an increase in bookings while Sunwebsays it is sold out. ‘Bad weather and the fact people delayed their holidays because of the World Cup played their part,’ a spokesman said. ‘But so did the crisis. People are taking longer to make up their minds.’
By contrast Dutch holiday at home umbrella group Recron reports a drop in domestic bookings. ‘People are not leaving the campsites but the number of new bookings is down,’ a spokesman said.
