Holidaymakers caught out over fines
Immigration control officers at Schiphol airport netted nearly €180,000 in unpaid fines in July and August, news agency ANP reported on Tuesday.
The passports of Dutch nationals leaving the country are automatically checked against lists of people who owe tax and traffic fines.
A spokesman for the immigration police said the summer period had passed without any major incidents. Some 1,666 people were issued with an emergency passport and 157 fake weapons were confiscated.
