Environment minister pays back private jet costs

Caretaker environment minister Tineke Huizinga said on Wednesday she will pay the €11,800 bill for a private jet she used to attend a scheduled cabinet meeting in the middle of her summer holiday.

The minister used the private jet to attend a cabinet meeting on next year’s spending plans last week.
Although ministers’ official holiday period ended on August 6, Huizinga went on holiday later, causing her to miss crucial meetings about next year’s government spending plans.
The bill was originally due to be paid by the environment ministry.
The decision to use a private jet was condemned by MPs from across the political spectrum. Huizinga, from the orthodox Christian party ChristenUnie, told RTL news she was very sorry about the fuss it had caused.
