One of the Netherlands’ most wanted men, Dino Soerel, has been arrested in Amsterdam, police said on Friday evening.

A helicopter and police marksmen were involved in making the arrest on the busy Rozengracht in the capital late on Friday afternoon.
Soerel, who was sentenced in absentia to eight years in jail for drugs smuggling last year, is a known associate of crime boss Willem Holleeder, currently in jail for blackmail.
According to the Telegraaf, Soerel’s name has also come up several times in a major ongoing investigation into gangland killings known as the Passage case.
The trial of 10 men and one woman charged with at least seven murders started in the high-security court in Amsterdam in 2009.
