Tour de France kicks off in Rotterdam
The 97th Tour de France cycle race left the Netherlands on Sunday after its formal launch in Rotterdam.
The organisers say around one million people witnessed Saturday’s prologue and the Sunday start.
The Dutch section of the race was not without incident, news agency ANP reports. At one point a dog caused a number of riders to fall but none were seriously injured.
The tour caravan crossed over into Belgium from Zeeland at around 1600 hours after completing 147 km on Dutch soil.
