Anton Paul Rapati, 87, was convicted in February 2009 of assaulting a boy from St. Albert more than 30 years ago and sentenced to 25 months in prison. He had faced a number of charges dating back to the 1970s.
Rapati became eligible for statutory release last week and was sent back to the Netherlands on Monday, CBC News reported.
Rapati was first charged in 1991 but he vanished before his preliminary hearing. According to earlier reports he bought a house in Volendam and worked as a volunteer at the local football club before returning to Canada in late summer 2008.
