Registered crime rate unchanged, but theft and robbery up

The number of registered crimes in the Netherlands remained about one million last year, the same as in 2008, according to new figures from the national statistics office CBS.

Theft and robbery was up 2% overall, with burglary up 6% and shop thefts up 9%. The number of robberies involving violence was up 26% on a year ago.
But muggings were down 5% and the number of reported incidents of vandalism on public transport fell by 41%.
The CBS did not give a break down in the actual numbers.
