Of them, just over 500,000 are heading abroad. The rest will holiday in the Netherlands.
It was Schiphol airport’s busiest weekend of the year. Some 475,000 passengers moved through the airport over the past three days. Ice creams were handed out to people with long waits, the paper says.
On the roads, holidaymakers were hit by long jams in France and on the Spanish border in particular. However, the last Saturday in July is traditionally the busiest day on Europe’s roads.
The ANWB motoring organisation reported on Monday it had received 65,000 phone calls over the weekend. Many calls related to overheating cars.
