Next cabinet needs €1.1bn extra for public services

The next cabinet will need to find an extra €1.1bn to pay for increased demand for public services over the next four years, according to the government’s social policy unit SCP.


For example, demand is set to increase for residential nursing care and childcare, the SCP said.
And some €500m will be needed for education spending because of the forecast increase in school and college student numbers.
