DNA data bank misses nearly 4,000 names
Some 3,858 suspected criminals have not yet complied with an order to make their DNA available to the national DNA data bank, the Telegraaf reports on Friday.
People who are suspected or convicted of certain crimes are now required by law to give DNA samples.
Those who have not yet done so are not being held in custody pending their trial, the paper says. But up to 60% of those asked to report to a local police station to give a sample actually do so.
Last year, almost 18,000 DNA samples were added to the data bank which now has over 100,000 names.
