Coalition talks are making steady progress, too soon to predict success
The four parties involved in talks to form a new government are making a ‘serious’ attempt to put a coalition together but it is too early to say yet if they will succeed, the two negotiators leading the talks said on Monday afternoon.
In the week after talks began between the two Liberal parties, Labour and the left-wing greens GroenLinks, a number of subjects have been the subject of ‘hefty debate’ the negotiators said.
The talks are taking place amid ‘notably good’ positioning by the parties and have made a flying start, negotiator Jacques Wallage was quoted as saying.
When talks began on forming a ‘purple plus’ coalition – so called because of the mix of party colours – the negotiators said they would only give occasional updates on their progress.
The party leaders have also been asked not to talk to the press in detail about the negotiations.
