Coach Martin Jol stays at Ajax, says no to Fulham
Ajax trainer Martin Jol has turned down an offer to join English premier league side Fulham and will stay with the Amsterdam side.
In a statement on the Ajax website, Jol says Ajax management had made it clear they did not want him to go.
‘And I do not think I can bring myself to leave Ajax at this time,’ Jol said. ‘I came here last summer to be successful, to build up a good team and to have pleasure. And those three things are important to me in the coming season as well.’
Ajax has a crucial Champions League qualifier against PAOK of Greece next week. The club was second in the Dutch premier league last season and won the Dutch cup.
British newspapers had reported that Jol was set to join Fulham on a multi-million euro contract.
