Young women outstrip men as university, college graduates

More young women are leaving college and university with a degree than men, according to new figures from the national statistics office CBS.


Some 42% of women aged 25 to 35 have a degree, more than double the 20% total recorded in 1996.
But only 36% of young men have graduated from hbo college or university, an increase of 11 percentage points on 13 years ago.

At the same time, fewer young women with a university or college degree are working full time than 13 years ago.
In 1996, 59% of women aged 25 to 35 with a degree worked at least 35 hours a week, but that had fallen to 52% by last year.
Nevertheless, 79% of young female graduates now work, compared with 90% of men.
