Wanted: 49,000 lorry drivers

The Dutch transport sector will need to find at least 49,000 new lorry drivers between now and 2015 to replace workers who are retiring, according to a new report on the transport and logistics sector.

The report, drawn up by the Policy Research Corporation on behalf of transport employers and unions, shows that the Netherlands position as a leading transport hub is under pressure.
The share of Dutch lorries in the international road freight market fell from 16% in 1999 to 8% by 2006, the report says.
