Three men, 62 and 65, lose licences after high-speed car race
Three men aged 62 and 65 have lost their driving licences after racing their luxury sports cars across the Afsluitdijk at speeds over 100 kph above the official speed limit.
The three were tracked by police surveillance cars as they tore over the dyke in two Aston Martins and one Ferrari.
Two of the men averaged 186 kph for their crossing, the other 222 kph. The maximum speed limit on the dyke is 120 kph, news agency ANP reports.
The three men also face hefty fines and a possible court appearance.
The Afsluitdijk is a 32km long road over a causeway linking Den Oever in Noord Holland to the province of Friesland.
The dyke separates the Zuiderzee, a salt water inlet of the North Sea from the fresh water IJsselmeer lake.
