Real estate agents reported one suspicious house sale last year
Real estate agents have reported so few suspicious transactions to the authorities that supervision of the sector should to be stepped up, officials tell the Financieele Dagblad on Thursday.
The official legal and accountancy sector regulator BFT wants to expand its operations to cover estate agents because they only reported one suspicious trade last year, director Folkert Winkel says in an interview with the paper.
By contrast notaries, the lawyers who process house sales, reported they had doubts about 343 transactions.
Winkel told the paper the BFT can be far more effective in its work if the entire regulation of the property sector falls under its control. ‘When real estate agents and notaries report the same transaction, we can launch an investigation more quickly,’ he said.
