New Rabobank HQ damaged by fire
The new headquarters for cooperative bank Rabobank in Utrecht have been badly damaged by fire – before the building has been completed.
Fire broke out on the 25th floor in one of the building’s two towers on Saturday night. At around 4am, there was an explosion on the 27th floor, possibly caused by exploding gas cannisters or the fire spreading to the main electricity cables.
The fire was eventually put out early on Sunday. Initial inspections show the building is not in danger of collapse but that the upper floors have been weakened.
