Farm ministry inspectors have discovered 500 dead pigs on a farm in Noord-Brabant, some of which have been left rotting for months, Nos tv reports on Wednesday.

The animals were apparently suffocated when the ventilation system on the pig sheds failed, Nos said. A further 2,000 pigs on the farm were said to be healthy but sharing accommodation with the dead animals.
The farmer faces charges of animal neglect but may also undergo a psychiatric examination.
