Dutch beards to stay as long as World Cup lasts

The beards sported by several members of the Dutch football team during the match with Cameroon on Thursday come from a German tradition, the Telegraaf reports on Friday.

Former Hamburger SV players Rafael van der Vaart, Nigel de Jong and Khalid Boulahrouz
know the game Geschoren is verloren (shaving means you’ve lost) from their time with the German club and persuaded John Heitinga and Wesley Sneijder to join in.
The five players made a pact not to shave for as long as Oranje is in the World Cup.
But Boulahrouz has already dropped out. ‘It was beginning to itch’, he told the paper.
