Amsterdam is the 35th most expensive place in the world for expats to live in, according to new research by the Mercer consultancy.

Mercer looked at the cost of accommodation, transport, food, clothes and household supplies in 214 cities. New York is used as the base city for the index and currency movements are measured against the dollar.
The most expensive expat base is Luanda in Angola, followed by Tokyo and Ndjamena in Chad. Moscow (4), Geneva (5) and Zurich (joint 8) are the most expensive European cities.
The Netherlands was 29th in the rankings last year and 25th the year before.
