Property fraud trial to start end June
The public prosecution department wants all the important suspects in a major property fraud case involving the Philips pension fund and construction fund Bouwfonds to be tried at the same time, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Monday.
The first stage of trial is due to begin at the end of June and the department expects ‘between 15 and 25 suspects will face charges’ the paper says. The main trial will begin at the end of the year.
A spokesman for the department declined to name names, but former directors of both the pension fund and Bouwfonds will appear in court, the paper says.
At the moment, witnesses are being heard behind closed doors.
In total, some 50 people are thought to have been involved in the fraud ring, focusing on eight transactions. The spokesman confirmed out of court settlements will be reached with some of those facing charges.
