Driving licence cost to be pegged at €36
Local councils will soon no longer be able to charge more than €36 for a new driving licence, news agency ANP reports on Tuesday.
At the moment, the price varies from €23 to €65 depending on where a motorist lives – a difference which led the home affairs and transport ministries to look into the costing process.
Research by Deloitte showed most local councils could not justify the price they charged, leading to the recommendation to peg charges at €36.
Draft legislation to bring in the maximum fee is currently being drawn up, ANP says.
