CDA could work with VVD, D66 and GroenLinks, says minister
The Christian Democratic party would be able to work in a coalition with the two Liberal parties VVD and D66 and the left-wing greens GroenLinks, because they are all prepared to reform the economy and heathcare system, the number five on the party’s list of candidates said on Monday.
Marja van Bijsterveld, who is a junior minister in the outgoing government, stressed that the CDA did not rule out forming a coalition with any particular party. However, ‘it is very important that we get a reforming coalition,’ she said.
Geert Wilders’ PVV is a stationary party and ‘that usually leads to setbacks,’ she said. ‘We want to make progress and keep the welfare state intact.’
A coalition with D66 would be possible, despite its support for mortgage tax relief cuts, she said. And the VVD could also be a partner, despite its ‘disastrous healthcare plans’.
Wilders
At the weekend, Wilders said he was ready to rule in a coalition with the CDA and VVD.
VVD leader Mark Rutte did not rule out such a coalition, but pointed out the PVV is left wing in terms of its economic policy.
Labour leader Job Cohen said a right-wing coalition involving the PVV would divide society and damage the position of the Netherlands in Europe.
