Zimmer frames, walking sticks and other mobility aids should no longer be covered in the basic health insurance package, the health insurance advisory board is set to recommend to health minister Ab Klink, the NRC reported on Thursday.

In addition, dental treatment should no longer be free for 18 to 22-year-olds, who can insure themselvses against the risk instead, the CVZ board says.
Earlier suggestions that pensioners pay for their own walking aids were dropped following widespread condemnation. According to the NRC, board chairman Dik Hermans expects ´more support´ for the proposal this time round.
The CVZ has already said it wants to scrap birth control pills from the basic health insurance policy.
The proposals are likely to be declared controversial by parliament, meaning it will be up to the next government whether or not to adopt them.
