Football association halts cup final ticket sales

The football association has stopped the sale of cup final tickets for neutral sections of the Kuip stadium in Rotterdam because it cannot guarantee tickets won’t fall into the hands of Ajax or Feyenoord supporters, Nos tv reports.

The decision means many sections of the stadium will be empty during the match on April 25. Each club has been allowed to sell tickets to 7,500 fans and 8,000 tickets have been made available to sponsors, club workers and other interested parties.
There have been numerous reports that hardcore hooligans are planning to disrupt the match. Rotterdam mayor Achmed Aboutaleb is due to unveil extra security precautions on Thursday.
Violent clashes between Ajax and Feyenoord fans in the past have led to away side fans being banned from matches between the two clubs.
On Monday, football association chairman Michael van Praag said he was worried about the game. ‘I think it is a real pity the cup final is being regarded as a sort of battle field. And I say that as association chairman and as football fan,’ he told a radio programme.
