Football association fears for cup final
The Dutch football association has doubts about staging the final of the KNVB cup between Feyenoord and Ajax in the Rotterdam Kuip stadium, the Telegraaf reports on Thursday.
Rotterdam city council has slapped so many conditions on the match in an effort to avoid crown trouble that the association now says the final could be moved elsewhere, the paper says.
Mayor Achmed Aboutaleb has limited the amount of supporters each club can bring to 10,000 and wants the kick-off brought forward from the traditional 18.00 to 14.00 hours.
In addition, the city centre will be ‘dried out’ and the police will operate a strict policy of almost zero tolerance, he said.
The April 25 final between the Amsterdam and Rotterdam sides is regard as a high-risk match.
Crowd trouble in the past has led to Feyenoord fans being banned from away games against Ajax and Ajax fans have been banned from away matches against the Rotterdammers.
