Escaped armed robber jailed for terror attack plans
A convicted armed robber Eric Jan Q, who escaped from jail in 2001 and was recaptured on 2007, has been jailed for a further 12 years for preparing terrorist attacks by judges in The Hague.
is facing new charges of preparing to cause explosions, according to various media reports on Monday.
The 36-year-old, given a 14-year jail term for two violent robberies in the late 1990s, has now been found guilty of planning to blow up targets in Rotterdam, the Telegraaf reports.
In March, maps, photographs and chemicals to make explosives were found in a hiding place in the woods near Arnhem, thought to have been use by Q while he was on the run, the paper said.
The public prosecution department had called for a 16-year sentence but the judges said the explosive materials could not be considered ready to use. In addition, they had doubts about claims that Q had attempted to blackmail two brothers, news agency ANP reported.
According to Nos tv, the hiding place also contained a list with names of justice ministry and court staff.
Q is known to have connections in extreme right-wing circles.
