Dutch companies which are given government grants to carry out projects in developing countries have been told to step up controls on illegal child labour, Trouw reports on Thursday.

From now on, companies found to be employing children or using forced labour can be fined, the economic affairs ministry said on Wednesday. The fine comes on top of the threat of losing the grant altogether.
The size of the fine has yet to be calculated, Trouw said.
