Bosnian Serb war was ‘holy’, says Karadzic

Former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic said at his trial for war crimes in the Hague on Monday the Serb cause in the Bosnian war was ‘just and holy’.

Karadzic told the international tribunal for the former Yugoslavia there was a core group of Muslims in Bosnia – then and now – who wanted 100% power. The Serbs were only acting in self defence, he said.
Karadzic faces 11 charges of genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and other atrocities. These include organising the massacre of some 8,000 men and boys in the Muslim enclave of Srebrenica, which was being protected by Dutch soldiers at the time.
The trail was adjourned last November after a Karadzic boycott.
