Add as a favourite source on Google Add DutchNews as a favourite source on GoogleTalks between Labour and the Liberal democrats D66 on forming a new city council executive in Amsterdam have failed after all, it emerged on Tuesday.
Labour, which is the biggest party on the city council, will now open talks with the free market Liberals VVD and left-wing greens GroenLinks.
D66 broke off talks with Labour earlier this month after local Labour leader Lodewijk Asscher was appointed temporary mayor to replace Job Cohen. D66 said the decision showed Labour is power hungry and demanded he pull back.
Labour and GroenLinks, which ran the city over the past four years, are one seat short of a majority this time round.
