AH supermarket goes cash-free in evening

An Albert Heijn supermarket in Kaatsheuvel has become the first in the country to ban cash transactions after 6pm.

Branch manager Piet den Hartog told local paper BN/De Stem he hoped the measure would reduce the risk of an armed robbery. ‘The less cash we have, the smaller the chance of a robbery,’ he was quoted as saying.
A spokesman for the supermarket group said there are no plans to take the ban nationwide. The store is run by a franchisee and it is up to him what steps he takes, the spokesman said.
