ABN Amro Fortis integration under union fire

The integration of nationalised banks ABN Amro and Fortis is disadvantaging workers, despite assurances that no-one would be worse off, the three main banking unions said on Thursday.

The unions said they would not attend pay talks scheduled for April 1 because employers have come up with a pay and conditions agreement for the combined bank which will adversely affect all staff.
The new pay deal will cover 30,000 bank workers, but the equivalent of 6,500 full time jobs will eventually be eliminated because of the merger.
