Klink to press on with alcohol crack-down
Health minister Ab Klink said on Thursday he hoped parliament would allow him to press on with measures to reduce teenage drinking and not label the issue as controversial, news agency ANP reports.
Klink is working on reforms to the drinking laws which will allow local councils to raise the age teenagers can buy wine and beer to 18. The new rules will also let councils clamp down on happy hours and ban young teenagers from going to bars.
MPs will decide next week what legislation currently in the pipeline will be allowed to proceed before the general election in May. Technically, ministers are now in a caretaker role and not allowed to deal with any controversial issues.
