PSV sacks Jonathan Reis for drugs
Football club PSV Eindhoven has sacked its Brazilian forward Jonathan Reis with immediate effect for drugs use, the Telegraaf reports on Monday.
Reis had refused to be admitted to a specialist clinic so his sacking became ‘unavoidable’, PSV director Jan Reker told the paper. ‘In particular, coach Fred Rutten has done his best to help Reis, but regrettably without result,’ he said.
Reis, 20, arrived back from holiday in Brazil after the winter break too late, in poor physical condition and suffering from extreme tiredness. Tests showed this was due to drugs, the Telegraaf said. It did not name which drugs Reis is said to be taking.
PSV consolidated its lead in the premier division this weekend with a 3-0 win over NEC.
