Union stops pension age increase protests

The FNV trade union federation has stopped its campaign against ministers’ plans to increase the state pension age from 65 to 67 by 2027.

FNV chairwoman Agnes Jongerius said the union had taken the decision because the plan has majority support in parliament. Instead the union will now focus on limiting the damage caused by the increase, she was reported as saying in the Telegraaf.
Jongerius was responding to calls from a number of FNV afiliated unions calling for a national day of action against the two year increase, the paper says.
By stopping the campaign against the increase, Jongerius has highlighted the division between moderates and radicals in the trade union movement, the paper said.
